Our sight is important - most of us can agree to that. Eye health might not be something you think about on a daily basis, however with time our eyes will be worn down. How to keep them in shape? Read below 5 tips on how to maintain a healthy vision.
The human eye is an important and complex sense organ - and eye health goes hand-in-hand with your general health. Don't take your eyes for granted as they are complex organs like any other. There are many things that affect your vision; your lifestyle, your age, the sun, your eyewear and your diet etc.
1. OMEGA 3 / DHA
The omega-3 fatty acid known as DHA is an important micronutrient for your general health - and also your vision ( source ).
DHA is found in fatty fish like salmon, herring, anchovies and mackerel. If you don't eat fatty fish on a daily basis (400g a week), then you can supplement daily with an omega 3 oil from fish or algae.
We recommend 1 capsule / 1000 mg per day.
2. STOP SMOKING
We know smoking is bad for us in general, but did you know it's also really bad for your eyes?
Smoking is related dry eyes, increased risk for getting cataracts and increased risk of having optic nerve problems (source).
If you wish to support your eye health on a daily basis, make sure to stop smoking.
3. VISION SUPPORT

4. WEAR SUNGLASSES

Sunglasses are not just sunglasses - make sure to get a pair that have built-in UV protection. Choose a pair that blocks 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

TIP! You can try to reset your eyes every 20 minutes. Take your eyes away from the screen, look 10-15 meters away and try to focus on your surroundings for 15 seconds - then go back to work. Do it every 2 hours and remember to take breaks during your work day.
