Mette Skjærbæk is a former successful fashion model, and today she is the creative director and the woman behind the Danish brand KARMAMEJU BIOACTIVE SKINCARE.
My name is Mette Skjærbæk. I’m from Svendborg, where I lived until I was 16, before I set off to explore the world. I spent the next 10 years living in major cities like Milan, Tokyo, London, Paris, and New York. In many ways, that time inspires everything I create today. During those years, I was deeply interested in what we now call biohacking and holistic health. I’ve always been fascinated by how people can feel their best and make the most of everyday life.
I moved to Copenhagen in 1999 and founded Karmameju.
I start my mornings with a smoothie or porridge packed with nutrients for the body, mind, and skin—fruit, vegetables, seeds, grains, raw foods, oils, cold green tea, and more. For me, it’s the perfect start to the day. I take most of my supplements in the morning so I remember to get it done!
After that, it’s coffee and dry brushing—a fantastic treatment for both face and body that stimulates the lymphatic and nervous systems as well as blood circulation. It also removes dry skin and helps reduce cellulite. It’s brilliant skincare that makes both body and mind feel amazing.
My skincare routine varies daily. My advice is always: check in with your skin—what does it need today? The skin is our largest organ. Moisture and oils are its primary needs, and it makes complete sense to care for it every day.
I also focus on good sleep, supplements to fill in nutritional gaps, movement, daylight, hugs, relationships, laughter, sensuality, and hydration—they’re all part of my daily focus.
I’m fascinated by anything that stimulates the senses, and I love aromatherapy for its ability to energize both skin and mind. Using 100% natural scents is part of my daily routine.
Happiness is the most important factor for health, and I pay close attention to it. Luckily, taking good care of my body and mind gives me an inner sense of wellbeing. Holistic health and biohacking are a natural part of my everyday life. I eat everything but aim for an 80/20 balance—80% focused on respecting my body and 20% for fun, without guilt or shame.
I’ve had a busy life and I’m a high-energy person, so one of my priorities is to slow down. Do less. Be more present. Live in the moment. Feel it. Remind myself that life happens now—and it could be over tomorrow, so enjoy it while you can. Simple things, like walking slower, can calm the nervous system. I believe we’re living in a time where we must take responsibility to say STOP and resist society’s pace.
Vitaviva has been part of my health routine for many years. I discovered it through careful research, because it’s important for me to trust the producers behind the products I use—whether supplements, skincare, food, or anything else. The research behind Vitaviva is why I choose it over other brands. It’s essential to me that doctors develop the products and that there’s clinical evidence to back them up. Their guidance is also a key factor in my choice.
Supplements are an essential part of my health. I use them to support areas where diet and lifestyle alone aren’t enough. Born in 1974, my body naturally needs extra support as I get older. When I turned 50, I had a full health check at Vippa House, which showed, among other things, that my vitamin D was too low. I also know my family eats too little fatty fish, so omega-3 is a staple in my supplement routine.
I have osteopenia, the precursor to osteoporosis, so bone health is a key focus in my supplements.
I feel part of a health-focused family that truly cares about me. It’s not just a supplement I buy in a store—it’s a team of health professionals helping me create the optimal routine based on my current needs, whether that’s supporting cartilage in my knees, strengthening my skin, or getting vitamin D to the right level. I trust the Vitaviva supplements I take, and that trust is incredibly important.
Omega-3 1000 mg – explained in the next question.
Vitamin D3 25 mcg + K2 37.5 mcg with olive oil – essential for keeping my vitamin D levels up.
Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc supplements – important for my body as I go through menopause.
Powerful Turmeric – for its anti-inflammatory benefits.
Magnesium – to improve sleep quality.
Glucoextra – to support joints, cartilage, and bones.
Vitaflora – probiotics for gut health. Our microbiome, both in the gut and on the skin, is vital for overall wellbeing.
Omega-3 1000 mg. It’s essential, especially for someone like me who eats mostly plant-based, likely consuming more omega-6 and omega-9. Balancing omega-3, -6, and -9 is crucial for health, so this is my most important supplement.
I’ve always been a “water pusher.” On all Karmameju products it says: STAY HYDRATED / DRINK WATER. A dehydrated body suffers. If it’s hard to remember, place a raisin or a grape on your kitchen counter—they’ll remind you how you want your organs and skin to feel. Raisin or grape?
